No sound from my PC speakers

I have tried averything I ca think of. Speakers worked perfectly well, then had to restore my PC and now they don't work.

It tells me they are working, they are not muted but no sound comes out at all.

Any ideas?

I had this a little while go. Checked all the wires at the back of the computer - everything was fine..............then after about 2 months I moved the bass unit part of the speakers and discovered one of the wires wasn't in properly - put it bak in and hey presto they worked again

Some older speakers have a battery in them rather than getting their power from the pc or the mains.
Can you hear anything if you plug headphones in to the of - that will help identify whether the problem is with the speakers themselves or something on the pc.
