How do I find out my Wireless network key?

Iam trying to connect DD's new netbook (birthday present; she isn't aware of it yet!) to our wireless but it is obviously security enabled. But I don't know the network code!

Is there anyway I can find it out from my own laptop, which is permanently connected?

HELP!!!

It's usually written on a label on your wireless router

Hulababy · 18/03/2009 21:15

It has a serial nuber and a MAC number, and then a default password too. But that doesn't work. Must have been changed when it was set up. Just have no idea to what!!!

ours is written on the bottom of our wireless modem!

Wish ours was!

Only ever connected something to ours once before other than my laptop - that was yours ages ago Katz.

Network provider? Mine (aol) sorted mine over the phone

purepurple · 18/03/2009 21:20

ours is on the bottom of the box
try all the numbers in turn, you never know, you might get lucky!

or can you uninstall it and then re-install it using the default code?

Reset your wireless router and set the whole network up again. If you have the network key it will be to a password of your choice and only you know it.

That's all the network key is. A poassword to your router.

katz · 18/03/2009 21:20

i seem to recall that when i attached my laptop you had no password! hence adding one! have you tried your vista password, didn't your DH's work guy set this up, so he might have used the same one.

Hulababy · 18/03/2009 21:24

I don't know where the CD or wires are for my router so too scared to reset incase I can't get online on my laptop afterwards.

No CD on the netbook to do it onto that.
