Help some virus or bug has hijacked my Google results and I keep getting all sorts incl revolting porn when I click a search result

OK for a few weeks now, when I search on something in Google, and then click on a search result, I get redirected to some random sites.
Until now it hasn't been such a problem as if I just click back, I end up at the right one but tonight quite a few times I've been faced with horrid porn pics and it's not what I want to see!

I've also found Firefox has been crashing more than normal.

How can I solve this?

I need to check but I think I have the same problem whether I use Firefox or Internet Explorer (haven't used the latter for a while)

Also another relevant point is that sometimes the sites I'm redirected to are vaguely relevant to a search term (although clearly not with the porno ones!)

HELP !

I think you may have a rootkit or something.
I had one a while ago - but mine kept redirecting me to places 'selling' 'anti-virus software'

A friend downloaded a remover and got rid of it for me ... sorry, I'm a bit rubbish at these things, hopefully someone more helpful will turn up

Download the free version of malwarebytes and run it.

Oh dear well I've done that and another called spybot and it's still happening...any other ideas very welcome.

What you could do is use HijackThis to make a list of everything running on your pc and post it here (or somewhere else where friendly nerds will look at it). Take the first option to scan and save a log file.

well none of my IT consultant's tactics worked - similar to what was suggested here and a bit more so I ended up having to cough up £100 to get rid of this particularly persistent worm virus thing! Had to have the Operating system all reloaded as they just couldn't get rid of it (and they are good, honest types I know well).

We had this a while ago. None of the free downloads worked. In the end, we needed to pay someone.

I wonder if it was the same worm....did you get the exact same thing with Google results too?

Has been a right pain with porn coming up - quite horrid.

And coughing up £100 to get it sorted has left me unamused too!
