Print is on the menu that appears when you click the top left circle thing with the multicoloured overlapping squares. Most things of any use are there. I bloody hate Word with Vista - nothing is where it should be.

emsiewill · 08/03/2009 17:17

You need to use the "office button" (it's round thing in the top left hand corner with the windows logo on it). If you click on it, you get a menu with all the things like print, save etc.

If you can be bothered / have the time and inclination look here for help on Word 2007

I hate Word on VISTA we've had it for over a year, and I still can't stand it. I tend to do all my documents on my laptop now, in order to avoid using VISTA!

word-tips-world.blogspot.com/2007/04/word-2007-drop-down-menus-gone.html says
"Look guys,
in just 3 minutes you can customize Quick access toolbar.
First, right click on upper left big quick access icon and select "Show quick access toolbar below the ribbon". In same drop down menu click on "minimize the ribbon". Stupid ribbon is gone! Then in same menu click on "Customize the quick access toolbar ...".
Select "all commands" from "Choose comands from" drop down menu.
Freely add all the commands you use for years before ribbon and put then in right list. Move the new added commands in place you are familiar with... NEW, OPEN, SAVE, SAVE AS, PRINT PEVIEW PRINT, CUT, COPY, PASTE, CALCULATOR, ETC"

Note: I haven't tried this. I don't know how well it works?

It's a circle right at the top - looks like a logo rather than an icon, IYSWIM

Word 2007 is the way to go. Similar steps to CAUP,ie

  1. quick access toolbar below the ribbon
  2. minimize the ribbon
  3. EVERY time henceforth you go into the ribbon to pick out a command, RIGHT CLICK and add to quick access toolbar so you never have to go into the ribbon again for it
  4. Customize the quick access toolbar later on when you get several command icons up i)shunt them up and down using the up and down arrows so you get eg all the file type (NEW, OPEN,CLOSE etc) commands together ii)then separate your groups of commands eg print type/file type/layout type by adding a few which give a nice little grey line between the groups.

I love it now the ribbon is gone.

foxinsocks · 08/03/2009 18:14

just remember that the big round button with the windows/vista thing on it seemingly does everything. Once you remember that, you'll be fine .

(I remember the first day I had it going OH FFS HOW DO I SAVE and feeling like a 70 year old turning on a computer for the first time having never seen one before!)

RustyBear · 08/03/2009 18:16

It's not actually 'Word on Vista' - it's Word 2007 & you don't have to have it, Word 2003 works perfectly well on Vista. Did you buy it or is it the limited demo version -if so, you can install 2003 instead.

Having said that, we now have 2007 on our new suite at school & the kids are getting on with it perfectly well - it's only the adults that are having trouble....

catinthehat1 · 08/03/2009 18:21

Did I say I love it?

RustyBear · 08/03/2009 18:24

I find the biggest pain is manipulating images - you can't group them unless you insert a drawing canvas first, which seems a backward step to me. But I do like the other things you can do to pictures & I like the 'rollover preview' thing.

And if you're doing Word Art, try creating it in Excel instead of word - for some reason the 'new' word art isn't available in Word - but you get a lot more options in Excel & you can cut & paste it into Word when you're done.

off to bed now.
