Erm, try Firefox? IE is utter shite (sorry).

Sounds like you have a problem with either Java or ActiveX - quite often if the site is running a script and it fails, it continues to try and load and everything stops round it - complete PITA. I advise:

(1) Download the latest version of the browser.
(2) Install pop up blockers

This should sort both aspects of the problem.

do i have to remove the activex program first (assuming that's it)

If you go to control panel and the Java icon there will be an update button that might help if it's java related.

IE has a pop up blocker on the Tools menu that you might want to turn on if it isn't already.

Also on the Tools menu there is 'Manage Addons'. Use the drop down box to select "all addons used by IE" then go through selecting the activeX ones. A button will be available to "update activeX" if an update is available. You can disable items too, at least to test which if any is the problem.

It also couldn't hurt to go to Control Panel - Internet Options. You will see an option to Delete Files. These are temp files and it's ok to get rid of them and it used to help in old versions at least.

NOOOOO remove nothing. If you have IE when you update it will prompt to replace any plug ins which are obselete

i have this atm - used to have it loads before MN changed over.
Are you having it on everything or just with MN pages open?

southeastastra · 28/02/2009 20:53

i already have the pop up blocker on. removed temp files, can't seem to find anywhere to update activex though sure i've had active x long before this problem

I would also advise downloading a different (better) browser,
Firefox or Safari

go to download.com

southeastastra · 28/02/2009 21:06

i'm now on firefox with no problems
