How do I get rid of the fecking pop up messages?

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the little pop up messages shaped like speech bubbles that I keep getting on the bottom right tool bar in XP, the ones that say that my internet is connected or that a network cable is unplugged? It's really getting on my nerves.

try right clicking on each irritating icon (the one that pops up bubbles you don't like) and turning off notifications through there? or try right click on some of the empty bar, go to protperties,. notification area and go through the list hiding the ones that irritate you?
