how to upload songs onto an ipod? help please

am not very conversant with modern technology. have rescued dh's ipod from the drawer it has been living in for two years. how do i go about puting songs onto it that i want to hear?
i have no idea if there are passwords on it or even if there can be. or anything like that. and i cant ask him either.
any advice appreciated please

Download iTunes here - plug in the iPod into your computer, and your iPod should appear in the lefthand side.If you get stuck after that, look at www.apple.com/support/ipod/

it says the ipod is linked to a different itunes library. i assume dh's on his computer. i hope i dont lose all the songs on it by transfering to this one.

ah, that means to add more songs to it, you need to connect it to your DH's computer, otherwise yes you might wipe everything that's presently on it. Unless that's what you want to do, to start from scratch?
