Urgent but dim itunes/itouch question....

I got an itouch for Xmas 2007, DH after some months had a go at syncing it and despite managing to do his ipod couldn't make mine 'visable' on the list.

It has been in a box all this time!

Recently I sorted out DD's shuffle, which she got the Xmas before that!, and loaded lots of music on that I had bought on itunes and is stored in my itunes library.

I am trying to sync my itouch and seem not to be getting far, it was visable on the list earlier but cannot see it now . Ye gods why don't these things come with better instructions?

If I ever get it sync'ed can I load the music I have paid for, that is in my library, onto it or as I have loaded it on to my DD's shuffle can it not be 'used' again (look I said it was dim Q)

DS is in hospital later today (as it were) for 3 days and I am downloading some Tthe Tank/Diego into my library. I cannot for the life of me remember how to get stuff from my library onto a device?

right I can see the thomas vids in my 'purchased' bit and also in TV shows I can also see a list of songs in 'music'.

My ipod is no longer listed on devices, in fact there isn't a devices subhead now AAARRGGGHHH.

I've got to get up in 4.5 hours and entertain my DS single handedly in hospital for 3 days whilst he undergoes a metabolic/fastin test which means he will be starved for 24 hour plus. Have a heart and take pity.
