The laptop died, it was a sudden thing, viral.
It had to be reset to factory settings.
Am now redownloading itunes onto the pc.
All my music is still on the ipod.
How do i get it back onto my itunes so i don't lose everything?

The first person to say, 'you should've done a back up' gets a slap.

TIA

you can get software to rip the music back off your ipod or if you can be bother just do it manually.

ok were they itunes downloads, if so they'll still be there
if not, i think you're sunk
do not connect your ipod till someone who knows for sure comes along
i lost 3000 songs the last time my itunes crashed

foxinsocks · 13/01/2009 21:19

this happened to us

we used ipod rip. We paid for it as we had more than 100 songs. It worked fine. It got stuck on a few tracks so we had to manually move the songs in groups and when we got stuck on a song (think it may have been corrupted), we'd stop and then exclude that song and carry on going.

Dh had about 4000 songs and it took maybe 2 hours to do the whole lot (and that was with about 40 mins of not really knowing what we were doing).

so i can do it manually if i connect the ipod up to itunes when i download it?

like copy, cut and paste the file?

foxinsocks · 13/01/2009 21:21

it was called www.ipodrip.com

DragonLowFatSpread · 13/01/2009 21:21

oooh, they were ipod downloads, does that mean i have them on an account?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 13/01/2009 21:21

it will only put back on itunes what you purchased via the apple store

DragonLowFatSpread · 13/01/2009 21:22

oh that sounds hopeful.
i have the rest as cd's
might be nice to start afresh anyway

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 13/01/2009 21:23

it will say something like

do you want to transfer your purchases or do you want to wipe the ipod or something like that (when you plug the ipod in)

and you click, transfer purchases

look it up on the itunes/ipod support page as it has a help file on this

Ooh. Now. This happened to me. Well in actual fact my bloody dog pissed on my laptop and killed it. All my itunes were in my iphone and I was devastated.
However a very geeky friend of mine saved my bacon with
this

Its definately worth paying the ten pounds otherwise it keeps asking you if you want the full version every few songs. V v dull.
HTH

DragonLowFatSpread · 13/01/2009 21:24

here's the help file

don't forget to authorise the computer first otherwise it won't work

DragonLowFatSpread · 13/01/2009 21:49

what do you mean by 'authorise the computer'.
sign in to my account?

OP posts:
DragonLowFatSpread · 13/01/2009 22:01

yay, i think it's working!

OP posts:
DragonLowFatSpread · 13/01/2009 23:06

Done it!
Brilliant.

ah it's a pleasure

I only learnt this all from experience. It's annoying because they don't answer that exact question on their help page...you have to really search for it. So much easier to learn from other people's experiences!
