Unidentified bit of computer cable - can anyone id it before I put it in the pile for Freecycle?

It is woven metal covered in clear plastic it has a USB at each end & a blue transparent pod in the middle

The POD is marked USB 2.0, as 2 green lights marker mode & action and a button

So what does it do before I pass it on to the computer heaven that is here

There are two things that look a bit like that. If it's a long cable I think it's a USB Extension Cable and the pod is to boost the signal somehow.

Googling USB Extension Cable in image mode will find more pictures.

The other kind is less common and was to connect two PCs together before everyone had routers and came with a CD of software.
