Does anyone know if this is fixable? Does it have to be sent back to Microsoft? Have read lots on google about self fixes but these look a bit suspect! DH would be eternally grateful to MN if anyone can help! TIA

ours are flat (the new one and the towelled one)

SugaryTits · 29/12/2008 13:50

Ahhh I can't tell you how frustrating this is! I have tried registering online for a repair- it won't let me register as apparently the UK is not supported! I have tried calling their "customer support" and it is permanently engaged!!

Ooh thats strange - I was OK - there is a button saying outside uS?? I'll see if I can find it - hang on.....

SugaryTits · 29/12/2008 13:53

I pressed that, it took me to registration page, I put in all my details but it came back with error message!

I got an email asking me to go to service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx (sorry my links are crap!) and sign in using my live ID - I had to create one at the windows live thingy??

Does this make any sense at all!!

aGalChangedHerName · 29/12/2008 13:55

Happened to us too!! Bloody infuriating!!

They are like robots on the phone btw. Just keep repeating themselves over and over and over..... IYSWIM?

Hope you get through to them and they actually help you x

SugaryTits · 29/12/2008 14:19

I have E-mailed them again- the first reply to my E-mail being no help whatsoever! This is so frustrating!!!

Sugary any joy with your emails yet?

SugaryTits · 30/12/2008 12:13

i must have been really lucky then, mine was picked up and returned within about 5 days! i did everything online and hadnt any problem with it at all. my xbox360 was about 2 and a half yrs old, so still under warranty for that fault

CharleeinChains · 30/12/2008 12:23

I was really lucky, ours started being tempremental with what games it would play ect, so dp phoned xbox and they were going through some checks with him telling him to do x,y,z......... while he was doing it the xbox cut out and we got the red rings of death and as soon as dp told them they said they would collect it next day, it was back fixed as good as new within 2 weeks.

We have an Elite.

The towel trick doesn't last long for anybody as its a motherboard fault which can't be fixed at home unless you really know what your doing.

CharleeinChains · 30/12/2008 12:23

You have to ring them they are pants via email.

harleyd · 30/12/2008 12:31

no, i emailed them in the morning, and had a courier at my door that evening to pick it up, no hassle at all

aGalChangedHerName · 30/12/2008 12:34

Harleyd our xbox is only 2 years old and they wanted £140 to fix it they said. How the hell can that be??

Ach well ds2 is happy as he has the Elite now.

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 30/12/2008 12:35

we had this a few months ago, dh did the towel trick but only worked for a week longer. He sent ti to microsoft who fixed it and sent it back within about 3 wks.

harleyd · 30/12/2008 12:40

agal, that cant be right, they extended the warranty to three years for the red ring of death, theres no way in hell i would have paid to get it fixed, with it being a fault with them. i would query it again with them if i was you

gemmiereindeerlegs · 30/12/2008 12:47

this happened to us a few months ago, the warranty is extended to 3 years for the red lights of death. I registered our appliance on the website, followed the links to repair my console and they sent a man to pick it up within 2 days. they sent me an email to say it had been fixed and would be returened to us shortly. we got it back 2 days later in wonderful working order. I thought the service was fab

aGalChangedHerName · 30/12/2008 12:49

Hah bastards that's not what we were told at all by the twat person from Microsoft.

Too bloody late now DH has done the heat shrink etc to it.

God we could have done without spending another £200+ on an Elite

FourArms · 30/12/2008 12:56

DH and his friend up the road had this problem. Arranged pick up over the internet, and was back fixed within a few weeks. Only problem is that they didn't send it back in the original box that we sent it in, so don't send it boxed like that if you want to keep the box.

SugaryTits · 30/12/2008 15:05

Ah Hallelujah! I have managed to register the repair online and they are E-mailing me a shipping label so it can be sent back to fix! Watch this space!

SugaryBits · 15/01/2009 18:43

Just thought I would let you know, our x box is back and fixed! They also sent a months free live membership. Impressed with their service.

differentID · 15/01/2009 18:50

they're pretty good aren't they?

rosieposey · 15/01/2009 19:10

This happened to ours yesterday - boy am i glad to see this thread up as im the least techie person ever! Sugary, do you have to go to their website and register the repair? Any chance of a link anyone? DD's would be eternally grateful our elite is only a year old

SugaryBits · 15/01/2009 20:29

Yes go on to the website, you can try calling them, I didn't get through- was always engaged but worth a try! I will look for the website link now.

rosieposey · 15/01/2009 20:30

Thanks
