avg free v8, adaware and spybot have all been quite good imo

we've got ZoneAlarm and it seems fine.

You do need it - the average time it takes hackers to 'spot' a new computer is 6 seconds - apparantley!

AVG is rated VERY highly by Which? and its free. I use Avast! which is also free and I find less intrusive than AVG.
