I've posted in 'Christmas' - want to get one for 5yo DD but heard that kids' ones are crap. Am considering now a proper one (not necessarily professional quality) so that I can use it too when out and about locally (don't know what she'll think about that) .
Any recommendations?

We have these (for non-DC-related use) and they are good. But (a) probably more than you want to spend, and (b) while easy for a child to use, it may be slightly too easy to accidentally change the channel for them to be a good choice for a 5yo.
