How do I "ensure javascript is enabled within my browser"?

I have just changed to firefox from Internet Explorer and various applications keep asking me to ugrade my FlashPlayer. I have the latest version, in which case it tells me to "ensure javascript is enabled within your broswer". I can't work out how to do that. Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

Thanks in advance

javascript is built into the browser, to enable/disable it select edit, preferences, content, enable javascript
