Put a memory card into my computer to load photos onto it, how do I access it?

For a digital photo frame.
Is the card not compatible with my computer? I can't access it through My Computer, Devices with Removable Storage.
TIA.

Have you tried Start and then Run, Browse?

cathcat · 17/12/2008 18:43

Still can't get it to work. Any more ideas?
Do I need a card reader? Or does the computer have one built in?

If your card fits into a slot on the side of the computer then it should open automatically.

If not, then you will need a card reader. You can get one for less than £10 at Asda/Tesco. When you plug the reader into your USB slot click on "Computer" then under "Devices with Removable Storage" you will find your card listed. Click on that and you can access your pics.

Are we talking about a Sony Memory Card - very thin, black, and one corner cut off like a SIM card?

If so, Computer > Memory Stick (D should do it.

CoteDAzur · 17/12/2008 19:06

No smiley intended there. I meant:
D: Memory Card Drive

cathcat · 17/12/2008 20:05

The card fits into a slot on the front of the computer and a green light comes on. But it is not appearing under Devices with Removable storage. It is a Sandisk SDHC card. ARRRGHGHH!

Go to Computer (or My Computer)
There you will see C:, E: (CD/DVD), and D: (Memory Card).
Double click on Memory Card.

It should work.

If you can't see memory card there - is your Windows version older than XP?

cathcat · 17/12/2008 20:14

It is not listed in My computer.
I have XP.

Have you tried the age-old remedy?

Take memory card out
Turn computer off
Turn computer on
Put memory card back in

cathcat · 17/12/2008 20:25

Lol no not tried that yet. Dh said the computer failed to start this morning, only got going on the 3rd attempt (unrelated I think to my problem) so not keen on switching it off. it was like this last night too so don't think it would solve the prob.

Found this - no idea what it means! -
Please Note: Please check the device you are buying this card for is SDHC compatible. SDHC cards are not backwards compatible with standard SD Host devices, however standard SD cards are forward compatible with SDHC host devices

ive just tried the memory card out of my camera and it worked fine, uploaded photos and i slot it into frame and its working

the problems seems to me the card.the one i bought is a sandisck sdhc 4gb and my camera one is different

i tried to insert the new card into my camera and it tried to format then said format error??

madrush · 17/12/2008 22:10

Sorry to bear bad news:

sdhc is a new(ish) sd card format for high definition images. Not compatible with most old card readers (and cameras etc) - our pc is a year old ish and it won't read sdhc. I believe you either need a plain sd card not sdhc OR a card reader (normally usb) that is compatible with sdhc to plug into computer with card in that.

madrush · 17/12/2008 22:13

Think this would do it, or this type of card

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 17/12/2008 22:14

just read that on web

will go out and get sd 1 gb card tomorrow
thanksx
