help needed,laptops busted, how do i fix???

hi , my laptops built in mousey thingy(square bit you touch to move the cursor)isnt working,how do i fix it, rest of keys are ok and laptop is otherwise ok.dd4 was playing bash the dolly of the laptop when i answered the door (xmas delivery) and i have no idea what she did to it,im using a plug in mouse just now but its not very portable so need to sort this. laptop is an acer 5920, help please!!!!!

have you tried a restart,it can sometimes sort out problems,either that or get a cordless mouse,i use this as i.m a bit heavy handed for the touch pad

ive had it off and then turned back on,is that restart? think i should get a wireless mouse,the one ive got is wired and is pain,thanx
