Nobody else can see it as it's only visible in your own registration details isn't it?

No-one else can see your nickname history, but it needs to stay on the system in case there's any question later about who a nickname belonged to. You'd only get rid of it by stopping that registration and starting a completely fresh one, and even then I think MNHQ would still have the old list.

It's when one posts a message - the various nicknames are kept as history and the password is automatic.

Can this be deleted?

I think if you deleted your temporary internet files and cookies it would probably go - but it might be worth asking on "SiteStuff" to get one of the Techs to confirm that. AFAIK that kind of thing is being stored on your own PC, not in MN itself.
