Need help removing a background from a picture to superimpose it please

Have pic with white background, want to super-impose it onto another pic for joke, but get square pic superimposed ie including white background.
Please can somebody tell me how to do this, TIA.

Make your background see-through (no colour) instead of white or cut round the picture you want and superimpose it as a shape. Hope that's a help.

Do you have Photoshop?

Would love to know how to make background see-through! Tried to cut around it (well DH did and he said he could save file as cut out shape but he managed to cut out shape and stick it on somehow).
Wish we did have photoshop - I think it would have made life (well this joke) easier!

I don't use photoshop, but in general terms you want to 'select' everything that is in the background color and then 'invert the selection' so you now have just the picture selected and then copy & paste it onto the other image.

You might begin by selecting the background color (white in this case) as the current color then go to your selection menu which will most likely offer selecting current color as one option. Then look for an 'invert selection' option.

Perhaps someone who uses photoshop can be more specific.
