How much memory do I need for a new family computer?

Kids are now 5 & 8 and our old computer needs replacing. Soooo, how much memory do I need to get us through the next 6/8/10 years or so?

We use our computer for wordprocessing and excel - nothing complicated, MN - of course, and email.

We will probably be downloading digital pictures (though storing most of them on CD/an external hard drive); the boys will probably want to download music, though could use the external hard drive too to store stuff; the boys will probably get into computer games other than CBeebies.

Soooo, how much memory should we be looking for on a new computer, purleeeaase?

Yes, ten was a bit optimistic, wasn't it? I do like things that are built to last!!

2GB should be enough for most tasks.
