I keep getting spam emails in what looks like Greek!

For the last couple of weeks I have been getting up to 20 emails a day in what looks like Greek, from different (often English) email addresses.

I don't know anyone Greek.

I can't read Greek.

I am getting really cheesed off with bouncing them all back to sender.

Is anyone else getting them?

Never, ever reply to, 'bounce' or do anything except delete a spam email. If you reply, one of only two things can happen:

  1. The sender's address was forged and you have just sent an unsolicited message to an innocent person - yes, you are now a spammer yourself.
  1. You have just confirmed to the spammer that they have sent a message to a real person who has looked at it, unlike 99.9% of their messages that are correctly dealt with as spam. You can therefore look forward to a lot more spam!

It's probably Russian. I see a lot of Russian spam. Don't know why, don't care.

Does your ISP offer spam filtering? Do you trust them enough to allow them to decide not to deliver some emails?

Thanks MrV, I was under the impression that when my ISP bounces the email it sends it back as undelivered, as if it hadn't been received? I will stop now though just in case not!

CruelandUnusual - it might well be Russian, looks strange anyway! I do have a spam filter which removes most spam but for some reason these are getting through. It's not a huge problem but it's odd how all of a sudden I started getting so much.

Will just delete from now on
