i watch programmes on my lap top and halfway through the screen goes off - like in screensaver mode - but have checked re check applied different screensaver - but it still goes off - like an energy save mode r something

what the hells going on - i just want my computer to stay on when i am not touching it

It's not the screensaver you need to change, I think it's the 'power options' settings in the control panel.

Does it go off completely or just the screen go black?

If the screen goes black but moving the mouse/touching a key brings it back then it is set in Screen Saver mode.

Go into Control Panel then display then screen saver and set for 9999 minutes.

mine is on balanced - do i want power saver or high perfomance?
