anti-virus running out would you recommend

avira? our pc person said it was better as AVG though i'm more used to avg.

Is avira ok?

Also keep getting lots of pages opening at once, running spybot atm, any clues what this is?

I went off the free AVG because it started pestering you to upgrade. Apparently it has stopped doing that now so I'd be happy with that for free.

The free Avast that I'm using seems pretty good and doesn't cause me problems so that's ok too.

I've not tried avira yet.

As for the pages opening I'm not sure. Since you have spybot you probably don't have anything seriosly bad on your machine. Do you have the popup blocker switched on? (IE Tools Menu)

trying adaware now to stop the pages loading, it just opens the same page again and again and doesn't stop
