It's the hard drive which will cost about £200.00 to fix (plus will add Leopard). I've spent about £500.00 in last year getting it repaired.

Fix or get new one?

If I were my dh - I would get a similar wreck from ebay and use it as spare parts to fix the G4 (I live in a house full of macs repaired this way ) I'm typing this on a G3 (I think - it's the roundy pretty coloured type.

What sort of G4 is it? Depending on the type it's either very easy or a bit fiddly (the infamous dh)

It's an i book. Is this the fiddly one?

'fraid so. The older (PowerPC) laptops aren't very user-friendly for getting the disk in/out of. There are instructions on the web on how to do it: www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/iBook-G4-12-Inch/Hard-Drive-Replacement/83/14/

I'd get a new one!

They've just brought out a whizzy new Macbook, I'd buy one if I could think of a reason to. (Sadly my current MacBook is only 2 y old, so there's nothing wrong with it )
