Tom Tom G510 has just died on me - any ideas?

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the damned thing, but I do use and need it.

Unless it is sulking because I don't love it enough, it does appear to have died.

Little green light comes on to show that it's powered up, but blank screen. I've charged it up and tried taking the card out and putting it back again, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

TIA

Anyone?

Map?

ilove · 06/11/2008 18:30

Mine did this when the battery had totally died. I had to push the "on" button really hard while it was plugged in to charge.

beansprout - I always have a map with me! Just sometimes when I'm going to interviews and driving in the dark, the satnav is easier to use.

And interestingly, although it's been plugged in all day, now it's not plugged in, I can't even turn it on so that the green light shows.

There's a reset button on the back - you nee to push a pin or something in to reset it. Hope that works for you.

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/11/2008 22:03

Thanks Scotia - but no re-set button on the back at all!

If it's the same as mine - GO 510 - it's there but well hidden

Look on the back where the charger fits (put it face down). There's a kind of semi-circle shape at the top of the hole (lol, I'm rubbish at descriptions!) with a smaller (vey small) cut out shape of a semi-circle on it. Push a pin or something similar into the cut out bit - there's a tiny black reset button in there.

Try that and let me know how it goes

Sorry Scotia - have tried pushing pins/pens into all available holes and have not had any joy. Thanks though.

I think it is just truly dead.

I used the advice posted on this discussion to cure my dead TomTom 510! I found the reset button which is in the semi circular hole. It is very difficult to find and doesn't look like a button.
Hold the TomTom screen downwards (with the SD card hole at the bottom left). You need to find a row of gold pins (with a large gold contact to their left). Above these and further back you should be able to see a narrow green strip (its part of a circuit board) Just above the green strip and to the right, is a very small "nick" in the plastic case. In this nick there is a tiny hole which will just accommodate a pin (formed from a flatened paper clip) Just push a pin in there and hold for a second or two. Put the TomTom back on its power base and connect to the mains. Press the ON button for two seconds, and .... hope!!

Hah! Yes, I found it as well mendit, and all is now well. I can carry on having an ambivalent love-hate relationship with the bloody thing.

(I was surprisingly upset when it died though ...)

for tom tom.sorry for your loss.

helenmum76 · 28/07/2013 09:34

sounds like the tomtom battery, try a new one, my XL one had the same problem.

The battery was straight forward to fix.

OldBeanbagz · 30/07/2013 11:59

Is it 12-18 months old? That's the age at which i find TomToms self destruct Grin

Seriously we're on about our 7th TomTom but they do get daily use by my DH.

Just bought another new one off Ebay from Argos Outlet and have purchased the 3 year warranty this time.

We tried replacing the battery on the last one but it killed it completely Sad
