Internet history, am I right?

I just re=connected a laptop \i hadn't used for months to the internet (sorry, not used to keyboard so shocking typos)and I have something v odd on my toolbar, If I click on the fat star to shpw history I just get a list of google searches. But if I drop down the list just above it, next to where I'd type a search keyword I get a list of 7 topics, three of which I searched for today. The rest of the drop down is blank.

So my question is, are the other words searches that the person who set up the laptop for me on Tuesday did? One is very rude and I really don't want to click on it but if I do can I tell which sites were actually visited?

There's a good reason for needing to know btw.

Are you on Windows? If so, go to your history folder and you can see by date when pages were visited.

Tippychick · 23/10/2008 22:27

Urm, I have no idea of the answers to those questions. I am quite thick
LL, just above my screen on the left there is a fat star and a fat star with a green + symbol over it.The fat star I am told is a favourites centre.
I am on Windows I think, how do I go to a history folder?
Things do appear when I type into a google box but they're not always things that have been searched for I know. This isn't a google home page, it's a wee box next to the Google G on my toolbar which drops down. In the drop down is yahoo (my mail), Mumsnet, skype etc etc as words, not addresses. Those are all things I've used today. Underneath them are another 4 or 5 harmless enough words then at the bottom "anal f**k&ng" (only spelt properly natch). I'm guessing that was typed in by someone but I'd like to know when and what was visited. Can I do that?

If you want to see what sites were actually visited, then (in IE) do Ctrl + Shift + H to bring up the History sidebar.

thanks PandD. Thats just confirmed what the fat star told me though and it's just saying only google (www.google.com) and google mail were visited. I think I shall have to bite the bullet (ick, unfortunate choice) and click into it.

The fat star is your favourites list, which you have to physically add something to.

The wee box next to the google g is a wee search box, and the things that come up in it are not necessarily things YOU have searched for, just common, recent searches on google, so for eg if you typed in kerry I'm pretty sure it would suggest Kerry Katona as lots of people have been searching for her over the past 24 hrs!

BUT the things searched for by the users of your laptop will come up 1st.

Can't remember how to get into history...hmmm...going to have a look...

oh much more technical people than me here!

Tippychick · 23/10/2008 22:39

I don't think I'm explaining it well or I have a weird toolbar set up. When I go into my fat star it brings up a column at the side of the screen broken down into today, yesteray, last week and shows sites and searches. The fat star with a plus sign is my faves list.
I'm thinking the drop down could include searches that were typed in by someone but maybe months ago, when I last used the laptop, if I didn't clear the browsing history when I last used it. Which is still horrible but less so.

If you go to my computer-local disk C- documents and settings-your user name - local settings - history it gives you internet pages visited broken down by time period - is that any help?

Tippychick · 23/10/2008 22:52

Now I'm confusing things LL, I was explaining about my fat star to caz10 but the site in question doesn't show up on that list. It only shows on the drop down, along with whatever I've searched for today and a couple of random nonb rude words.
