I can't make the settings work on my PC, can anyone suggest why?

I've just tried to change the desktop and display settings which is normally very easy. However this time when I click 'apply' it doesn't do it.

Why would this be happening please? Can I do anything about it?

Thanks.

Is your computer shared by someone else who has their own logon? Sometimes there are two or more logons and only one has permission to change certain things.

A handy thing for anything that goes wrong is the event viewer (assuming XP and I expect Vista too)

On the start menu if you type eventvwr.msc in the Run box it brings up the event viewer. You select one of the sections on the left and on the right is a list of things that the PC did recently. Any with red crosses are things that went wrong and you click on them for more information.

Onager thankyou very much for replying. I sorted it out eventually, not sure what was wrong with it.

I like the eventvwr.msc thing and will certainly bookmark that to use in future.
