WII ADVICE PLEASE

I think we are going to buy a wii as a joint christmas present. I would like to buy a "bundle" but I have no idea what I need/would use, games seem to be really expensive!

My children are 10 7 and 4.

What do you think I need/would use and can you tell me of any good deals?

Sports pack. You can get other games later but the Sports Pack/bundle is the active one so you don't feel too guilty about buying a games console! And buy it NOW as it will surely run out by Xmas!

Wii Play comes with it - that's good fun and would keep you going for a while in itself.

Wii Sports also very good value - several games in one

Wii Fit is fun too, though it adds a bit more to the price

Make sure that you end up with two controllers and two nunchucks, either in the sets or get them separately.

Individual games tend to be about £30 each, so I'd suggest leaving that for now and considering them as separate birthday/Christmas presents once you get a feel for what kind of games you all enjoy.

mariokart is another good one, with lots of play value.

Mario Kart and Boom Blox both good for all ages. Buy them used from Ebay.

If you can afford it, I would recommend 4 wiimotes and at least 2 nunchucks.

I bought a psp yesterday and jsut spent a morning traispsing around town to find the best deals. I found that gamestation did the best package for me, but wii might be different.

It comes with Wii Sports, a remote and a nunchuck (which plugs into the remote). I bought Wii Play too as it came with another remote, and another nunchuck (mine are 6, 5 and 3). The 3 yo doesn't really get a look in though.

We love Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. The boys run (have yet to realise they only have to move their hands!).

I think the Carnival Funfair games might be good for everyone - thats next on my list.

We have Wii Play & Sports, which have games which will suit all your DCs ages.

We adore Lego Star Wars. The 'levels' go on for ages which would suit your 7 & 10 year old. My 5yo DS is getting the hang of it quite quickly. As well as the action, it's very funny, the figures break up into lego pieces when 'killed', the little lego Emperor runs about doing his 'hahaha' laugh and you can get Darth Vadar to go on the swings in a playground or ride a tractor.

Harry Potter is quite good too. And everyone tells us to get MarioKart, so I guess that's good too.

Wii Sports comes free with the Wii.
Wii Play is good as it is basically a 2nd WiiMote plus a £5 game.
A 2nd Nunckuk to go with the 2nd WiiMote.

LOADS of AA batteries.

Each WiiMote takes 2 x AA and the WiiFit Balance Board takes 4. I invested in 12 AA rechargables from www.7dayshop.com along with a 4 battery charger and that means we never run out of juice.

There isn't much out there for a 4 year old, althought Go Diego Go Safari Rescue is aimed at that age group. There is also a Dora the Explorer game coming out before Xmas.

MarioCart is great, but that again would require extra outlay for the stearing wheel for the 2nd player.

BoomBlox is quite good for stress relief - it also involves problem solving so I reckon it is good for kids.

SuperMarioGalaxy is probably one of the best looking Wii Games.

Lego Star Wars (Complete Saga) whilst great is ridiculously expensive, even second hand!

Super Smash Bros is probably the best "fighting" game on the Wii.

Where to buy:
I always fall back to www.Amazon.co.uk and www.Play.com for online purchases. You should get a better deal from then than walking into John Lewis, Virgin, HMV or Game.
However I suggest you order soon, as close to Christmas (November onwards) then stocks will be low.

I don't think you need games aimed at a 4yo - my 3yo loves MarioKart, WiiPlay and bowling on Sport.

You don't need extra steering wheels for MarioKart - we find the best way to play it is with remote and nunchuck, and with the wheel is quite hard. Although DS prefers the wheel. But you can just use the remote sideways, and it works the same way as the wheel.

can anyone tell me - does just the console come with games on it? and if so which ones?

usually comes with wii sport which is great fun for starting off.
