HELP! I've never bought a computer before and need some advice...

...and at the age of 34 here I am, finally about to buy a laptop to set myself up as a freelancer. My DH owns a Mac, which I've always used, and so my familiarity with Macs plus the fact that they hardly ever get attacked by viruses has led me to decide to get a MacBook Pro. Yes, I know they're horribly expensive, but I don't know where I'd start if I picked up something nasty on a PC laptop. Being a newbie I think peace of mind is probably worth spending the extra (yikes) £1000.

So what I need help with is understanding all the techy specifications. Does anyone know of any reliable, independent magazines or websites that could help me to wade through the gobbledygook and emerge confident enough to discuss Intel Cores, NVIDIA and processing speeds with even the most square-eyed geeks in town?

Thanks in advance .

Only MAC magazine I can think of is MacUser

Thanks nanny! I'll take a look at that, but I'm now thinking that perhaps I should just get a cheaper PC laptop. Spot the indecisive mum, anyone? So if anyone can recommend a non-Mac magazine or website I'd be very grateful. xxx
