Have googled, and can see a few "get your own website for free" type pages -

Can anyone recommend anywhere? Any points to consider? Thanks in advance!!!

Hmmm.... not a blog, but quite simple - favourite links, I suppose stuff about me, hope to have an ad at some point... if I can get people to visit!

things to consider:

who is your audience
what will interest them
what will make them come back
what sort of browsers do they have (should you have things like flash etc which can be annoying with a low link)
what layouts do you like (do a bit of browsing and find something clean and simple - look at why google is so popular!)
make sure the site is fit for purpose and will stay relevant; ie not lots of bits you have to keep updating
keep pictures small so they don't take ages to show
draw a site map so you understand how seperate pages will link to and from each other
make it 'sticky' have intersting things that people will come back to check like competitions or blogs or chat pages
test it on friends first
make the site name relevant to your page so the search enginges pick it up
