Geeky stuff

My mac screen keeps going dull, like it's in power saving mode, but it does it after a few seconds and is driving me mad!

Dh is a techy, but even he hasn't managed to suss out why, as all the settings that he thinks should affect it are ok.

Can anyone help?

Just counted and reckon it took 45 seconds.

IS it a desktop or a laptop?

EyeballsintheSky · 03/09/2008 15:29

Ah, was going to suggest power settings. Erm...

although if DH is a techy I'm unlikely to do better than him!

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/09/2008 15:30

Laptop.

Dh hadn't used a mac before playing on mine eyeballs, so give it your best shot regardless!

Are you working with your power supply plugged in, or off the battery?

sometimes if the battery is getting on a bit, it can lose power much quicker than expected. means a new battery is needed.

if you're plugged in, then I don't know, I'm afraid!

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/09/2008 15:42

Plugged in, and battery replaced a few months ago as I had one of the dodgy ones.

that was me reaching the end of my technical knowledge. Sorry.

brimfull · 03/09/2008 15:54

my macbook does this if I'm reading and not touching the mouse

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/09/2008 16:00

Hmmm. I just changed the display sleep option for battery from one min to 3 mins, and locked the change, and 5 mins later my screen hadn't faded. Tres odd. Will test some more later as don't want to leave machine untouched at the mo as want to MN!

Oh, and huge congrats if what I heard the other day is true Pruners .

lol - dh has obv been lurking on MN this afternoon, as I've just seen an email from him with a link to something to install, as he's apparently discovered that it is a bug.

Obviously I should post all my problems on MN if I want him to solve them quickly!

(Am not installing it yet though).
