Why is my hard drive making noises like a helicopter?

It has been doing it for a couple of days. It slounds like blades going round. ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-chc-hc- very quickly and constantly. Is there a large mammal caught in the fan d'you think? Or is it about to break?

Help me please

I just opened the disc thingy (looks like coffee holder) and put in a disc, it started up and has now stopped making that noise. I also moved it slightly on the desk as I think it was vibrating? and has stopped that too.

my disc drive does that when it's trying to read a non existent disc.

Maybe it thinks there is a disc in there?

or maybe it's just pavlov's DD playing games

hifi · 28/08/2008 23:46

no, still chugging along.

FlightAttendent · 28/08/2008 23:48

lol at silly o'clock. I don't know why I'm still up as I had five hours sleep last night thanks to cranky, miserable, teething DD and there's no guarantee she won't do it again tonight.

hope you get it fixed FA

Excellent. Mine has been whirring like that for a couple of days.

So... if popping a CD in doesn't work how do I clean the filter? And can I really be trusted to operate technical machinery?
