Can anyone help with PHOTOSHOP, please?

Hi!

I'm trying to change the colour of a bit of a pic, so am selecting paion bucket. When I go to the colour bit at the bottom, I click on it, select my new colour and click "okay" but then when I come out, the colour is still dark grey. Any ideas? TIA!

What do you mean by the colour bit at the bottom?

sorry, on the left is my toolbar running dowbn, and 3 up is what I consider to be two colours - which you can switch with each other, but both of those are grey on mine despite trying to select other colours!

Could be a variety of things.
When you click on one of the two paint colour swatches (one in front) your cursor shoudl change to a dropper - then if you touch anywhere on your pic the colour swatch should change to that colour. Try that first to check that is working.
Also check you are in the right layer if you have multiple layers. (Always duplicate your working layer so you can valuate your changes and go back easily if it all messes up)

Forgot to ask - does you "colour picker" pop up sub menu window open when you click on your active layer after touching the swatch?

Yes it's the colour picker that I am trying to choose a colour from, but when I click okay it hasn't changed!

Argh! am I destined for a lifetime of greyscale?!!!

You have checked you are clicking on the right layer and not a blank one behind so selecting grey?

Try a couple of the options perhaps - if you use the dropper, can you select colours from elsewhere on your picture and change the swatch using that, bypassing the colour picker totally?

Another way of changing the colour could be to use the "color" window. Should be open as a little window on the right (default setting) otherwise find in the drop down "Window" list.
You can you use the RGB sliders to alter the colours that way too? ANy use?
What type of file are you playing with ?

Check your color mode.

In Photoshop 7: open a document, under the "Image" menu, select "Mode" and choose RGB (Red, Green, Blue: used mostly for online graphics and video) or CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black: used mostly for print graphics).

When opening a new document, make sure the "Mode" pull down on the new document dialog box is RGB or CMYK.

doh! sorry, should have checked your colour setting first! Hopefully one or the other of those suggestions will fix it

Yes, you were right! The default new doc was on greyscale. Now fixed, and away I go! Thanks so so much! You've saved me hours of trawling through help on the net!
