Recommend me a digital camera and a video

Hi there,
Wondering if anyone can recommend me a Digital camera (up to £300), and also a video. Never owned a video before, so am clueless... and gather they have changed a lot in recent years.
Any tips gratefully received!

Are you looking for a full-size SLR camera, or a compact? I've recently got a Panasonic Lumix FX35 which is lovely if you like compacts - wide angle lens, up to 4x optical zoom, loads of options if you want them, and an Intelligent Auto (idiot-proof) mode if you'd rather not have to fiddle. It also does short bursts of HD video if you don't want to use your video camera.

We have a SONY Cybershot DSC-T9. It's a point and shoot camera which serves us well.
Sound on the video option is good too and has a lovely large screen.
Picture quality isn;t great, buut we own a professional camera too, so use that if we can really be botehred getting it out of the cupboard.

Thanks for this. I think my head is telling me to get a point and shoot (altho' my heart says SLR...).
Looking at camcorders as well. They are really confusing. Should I go for HDD or mini tapes of MiniDVs???? Anyone any clue?!

What do you want to use the camera for?
If it's for capturing all those moments for a new baby then I'd go for point and shoot.
Unless you're a good photographer (and fast), then SLR or point and shoot shouldn't matter too much for you.

miniDV is getting to be an old format now. HDD is considered better quality.

THanks for this everyone. I went for a Canon FS100 and a Panasonic Lumix LZ10 in the end. This Lumix is one that you can put onto Auto and let it do anything - or there are some manual controls. So good if you like the idea of going manual occasionally!
