Geeky stuff

Any Mac users - My desktop image, dock and top nav bars are floating around as my mouse moves over the monitor

How do I fix it?

Hard to explain but never seen this before.
I can see the dock at the bottom, but only if I scroll my mouse down to it, it moves up into view. By doing that, the top part whizzes off the top edge out of view. Same thing happens side to side.

Only about 1cm movement, in and out. I have tried the monitor settings but no use.

I am on third mug of coffee and its not helping. Any ideas?

Hover your mouse down to the dock near where the dotted line (looks like a mini zebra crossing is). When it pops up right click (or if you don't have a mighty mouse use ctrl-click) and select Turn hiding off.

mini zebra crossing?

RubberDuck · 04/07/2008 11:37

Otherwise check System Preferences, Display. Have you got a larger screen size set than your monitor size?

RubberDuck · 04/07/2008 11:38

You have your icons in your doc. Separating from your folders/wastebasket there should be a dotted line separator. That's what I mean by the mini zebra crossing

brokenbiscuits · 04/07/2008 11:46

I have changed the screen size. res and it still happens
done the zebra thing too hiding on or off, same thing happens.

Shall I just go to the oub early?

Sorry, have no more ideas

Brangelina · 04/07/2008 12:36

I'm not sure I've understood what the problem is[thick emoticon]. If it's your dock moving, go under the apple menu and select Dock preferences.

Other than that I don't know what to suggest, sorry.

Am intrigued by this zebra crossing, on mine it's a solid line. Have I got an old model or something?

RubberDuck · 04/07/2008 12:38

Oh maybe it depends on your dock preferences. I have OS X Leopard with the glassy dock surface thing.

RubberDuck · 04/07/2008 12:39

Ah ... had an idea ...

Systems Preferences>Universal Access

Do you have zoom on?

Brangelina · 04/07/2008 12:44

That must be it. I have Panther I think.

brokenbiscuits · 04/07/2008 12:53

Oh fantastic - was that it?! Yay, I solved someone's mac problem

brokenbiscuits · 04/07/2008 13:00

I don't know how that happened.
dd1 was using it last night! God knows if there is a shortcut key to it that she used by mistake.

Whhhoooo. I don't feel giddy anymore.

Have you tried it with zoom on?

brokenbiscuits · 04/07/2008 13:01

brokenbiscuits · 04/07/2008 13:32

Rubberduck I you have your own thread with my thanks and a pic for star of the week.

Thanks everyone else, but your efforts were not up to scratch.

RubberDuck · 04/07/2008 13:42

you're welcome

Fimbo · 04/07/2008 13:43

Oh dear me, I have just look at the Dock (get me!) and hovered over the zebra crossing - didn't even realise it was there before.

Arrgh. There isn't any hope is there!
