Ideas for letting my toddler choose a first Pokémon

I grew up with Pokémon and although I'm not one to do trends and some people may think it's childish, but I always wanted to the one where your baby/toddler picks out their first Pokémon.

My son is 15 months old and I tried putting him in front of some Pokémon plushies to see which one to was drawn to. This is what other people I know did with their children when they were about his age. Unfortunately, he didn't want to stand still and look and would walk off.

Whenever it's on, he smiles at all of them.

I thought maybe having him pick a catalogue and see about him picking a Pokémon from that catalogue.

Catalogues I thought of:

  • Original starter Pokémon - Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirrel
  • Eeveelutions
  • Legendary
  • Type - Fire, water, grass etc
  • Go by his personality

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The ‘Comfy Friends’ range of plushies in the Pokemon Centre are sooo lovely. I bought my 12 year old Flareon and he’s probably the softest plushy I’ve ever felt.

We did Gen 1 starters on our son’s first birthday. We found a pack of vinyl figurines (plus Pikachu) and filmed him crawling towards them. He initially chose Pikachu but when we removed him, he went for Squirtle.

On his second birthday, we found some mini Gen 2 figurines and he chose Chikorita.

And yes I’ve already got some Gen 3 starters ready for his third birthday. 😂

@HiyaJag Charmander, Pikachu, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, & Bulbasaur.

Children usually favour the object closest to their dominant hand so product placement could sway 😉

Have a look at this 😊

I will always choose Charmander! The episode where we first meet him still makes me cry! And I’m 49 😅😂 In fact, don’t tell my 16 year old, but I’ve had tears watching My Hero Academia!
