ahhh I see .. that's what you did

it helps you look at sites without them knowing who you are .. so basically you could look at anything and they'd not be able to track you back to your IP address

so that's why school is worried

windygalestoday · 23/06/2008 13:09

i thought as much i typed it in but didnt really get any info cos im not really v pc literate.

My ds came home Friday and told me his mate had typed in xxx on the pc at school in ict and they looked at a photo of a man licking a ladies fagina. It was very funny he said. I think I'd better inform ds's teacher...

We have got some very clever hackers in our school - that's why so much is blocked! On the other hand if I've got an IT query I know who to go to - so will you now!

kiskideesameanoldmother · 23/06/2008 13:19

don't know if it will make you feel any better, OP, however, our school has confiscated mobiles from Yr7s with graphic porn on it.

note: we don't go looking thru phones for porn. if they happen to be looking at it when they are caught is the only way we know if there is porn on the phone.

windygalestoday · 23/06/2008 13:23

i know boys are boys and hes 14 but we discovered he was looking at it and gave him the trust talk ...my objection is that i am the only woman in a house full of males and to do it so openly he was disrespectful to me so now hes chosen to do it this way .

he will no doubt say it was something else but why the secrecy???

i understand your upset. the bigger issue is not the content of what he is watching (As you say, he will deny what is was anyway), at least for the school, but the fact that he is seeking methods to get past the school's ict security.

Maybe the bigger picture for him is to focus not on what he is accessing but that were he to try to bypass the security system in the workplace it can be grounds for dismissal.

He is not too old to start to think that he is doing adult things so he will soon have to face adult consequences.

windygalestoday · 23/06/2008 14:52

the thing is is that this week he is on work experience placement, a placement i managed to wangle for him in the archives for the local council im praying to god hes not doing anything daft b4 i get to him tonight

The restrictions are seen as a challenge to their ability so most kids have a go at getting around them. They don't all do it for porn anyway as many schools will block things like MSN which they want to use.

Of course they should be learning, not playing.
