My friend was here yesterday, she had her laptop with her and a stick from T-mobile that she plugs into it, cost her £15 a month and she can use her bb from where ever she is and as much as she wants. Not sure if that's cheap or not, but it seams good.

lilyloo · 20/06/2008 12:13

If you have sky that's quite reasonable here
also talk talk is good here

mollysawally · 20/06/2008 12:14

I second sky

OneLieIn · 20/06/2008 12:15

I have just moved from BT to Sky and Sky is fab - really easy to get up and running and works first time. Very cheap, all daytime and evening calls included. We pay less now for broadband, calls and Sky TV than we used to just for our broadband and calls.

I VOTE SKY!

nappyaddict · 20/06/2008 12:16

virgin media have an offer at the moment. £16 a month for free weekend calls, tv and broadband. think you have to pay £11 a month line rental aswell so £27 a month in total.

lucylue · 20/06/2008 12:17

i saw tiscali on newspaper which seemd a good offer. 4.49 pounds first 3 months then 12.99pounds, a year contract.
but i dont know if tiscali is good.

i think an offer including land line would be good for me.

mollysawally · 20/06/2008 12:26

sky was the cheaper package for us, we've got the they supply our landline, tv and broadband.

Also the broadband is brilliant - fast, never crashes/disconnects

lucylue · 20/06/2008 12:28

i dont have sky

lucylue · 20/06/2008 12:29

how much is it a month mollysawally?
how much did you pay at the beginning?

If you don't want tv, Talktalk is the cheapest I think as they include line rental. Ours is the Anytime tariff and we have never spent more than £22 a month (including 0870/0845 type calls). Might change to their eve and weekend tariff which is even cheaper (and use call allowance from mobile during day).
Talktalk tariffs

what is bt broadband like?

lilyloo · 20/06/2008 12:32

lucy if you go on my link it will tell you a each package is different

bt expensive and not great imo

ZoeC · 20/06/2008 12:34

I've been with tiscali for years on broadband with no problems. Their callcentre is a nightmare though, so good until you get an issue then not so good. Did get sorted in the end so not all bad, just found myself stuck in callcentre hell for a while when I moved my phone over to tiscali.

mollysawally · 20/06/2008 12:54

I can't help you there, my dp sorts out all that - it bores me when I hear him talking about it so I switch off and nod a few times.

I remember him saying it was the cheapest though, and I know the broadbands good because I spend so much time online on mumsnet working!

If you phone sky they will tell the cost of everything.

lucylue · 20/06/2008 12:58

sorry for you Zoec. thats the thing i was worried, not being able to get support.
thanks molly. it bores me a lot too.
but i have to do it.

Talktalk is cheapest if you don't want tv. honest. have just checked (for us - as we are coming up to end of our 18mth contract) and do note Sky don't compare tariffs with Talktalk on their site and you have to pay line rental (£10.50 i think a month) on top of their rates. Plus lots of calls are included - anytime is just that for 36 countries (not that it helps us!!).

Tech support is fine now. Can always get through.

Shoshe · 20/06/2008 13:26

I have had talk talk for 18 months and cant wait to change providers, (we are waiting to ove and will do it then) they are the worst company I have ever had to deal with and would never go with them again.

mollysawally · 20/06/2008 13:29

I wasn't implying your thread was boring Lucylue, dp just has a habit of droning on about technical stuff that sends me to sleep!

nappyaddict · 20/06/2008 18:58

shoshe is it the customer service or the actual product that is rubbish?

kiddiz · 20/06/2008 19:21

I would avoid tiscali like the plague. They're fine until you have problems. They left us with no phone or broadband for 3 months and their cal centres are a nightmare We are now with o2. Because ds has a pay monthly mobile phone contract with them it's £7.50 a month (£12.50 otherwise)Had no problems so far but it's early days ...only been with them since feb.

charliecat · 20/06/2008 19:26

once you have decided where you are going check with www.quidco.com and see if you get paid for signing up with whatever company you decide on.

AbstractMouse · 20/06/2008 19:58

I would avoid tiscali, they oversubscribe meaning your speed is likely to be slower, especially at peak times. Our speed with tiscali was 500kb, we then went to BT which was
ok if a little expensive (ok a lot). We are now with o2 and get decent speeds of about 3mb (bout 1.5 with bt) and is quite cheap. We tried to go with sky as we have skt TV but they insisted that we couldn't get a reasonable broadband speed on our line (we are quite far from the exchange). Obviously we can get a decent speed, so we gave up with the idiotic feckers.

Habbibu · 20/06/2008 20:00

I wouldn't touch TalkTalk with a bargepole - customer service is just appalling - finally escaped to Waitrose - more expensive but worth it.

AbstractMouse · 20/06/2008 20:01

Btw O2 have excellent customer service, no endless press 1 for hell 2 for torture, and I swear they must mainline valium to their employees, too fecking cheerful by half
