Laptop is running xp. I have a 2wire wirless router and a belkin adaptor. This works ok on my pc which is vista, but on my laptop it is forever losing the connection and it's driving me mad. I have tried using the laptop closer to the router but that makes no diffrence. I only ever use one or the other so don't have the laptop and pc turned on at the same time. Any ideas please?

I have a belkin adaptor. Are u using hte belkin wireless utility to control it or windows? Mine was dodgy with the utility but works fine with windows connecting it.

Is the PC connected wirelessly as well?

Have you tried changing the channels used by the router?

I found on one Dell laptop that upgrading to the latest drivers from the Dell site made a huge difference, so it may be worth upgrading your drivers if they are not on the latest version?

Using windows to control it, wouldn't work at all with the belkin utility. I am forever using the repair connection option, sometimes it re-connects within seconds other times it's can be hours and I have to re start the laptop.

Yes the pc is connected wirelessly as well, sorry cross posts. Might try re installing the driver later if I can find it.

I don't know how to change the router channel. Could it be that? it can pick up 5 diff networks in the evening sometimes.

I got a belkin wireless adaptor for the pc - they sent the wrong version of software with it the muppets!!! took me ages of getting very cross and frustrated with it, then checked drivers. Tells you on the website exactly what drivers you need for the specific adaptor.

also you may need to upgrade your router firmware. and the type of encryption you are using makes a difference.
Check the properties of your wireless connection - is it 802.11b or g or will it run either? check what you have set on pc and on router.

I have checked on the pc it's 802.11b, that was under router properties I think. Will look for the website now. Thanks

Losing the connection a lot can definitely be a symptom of interference. I don't know your router, so I can't say exactly where in the menu you would change the channel, but it's usually quite simple.

Thanks, I think my laptop has seen better days tbh. I un installed the adaptor last night, then re installed it and it was better, but still kept dis connecting every so often. Am looking for a new cheap laptop now.
