I have a feeling that some emails, either in or out, have gone astray in the ether in the last couple of months. How can I find out if this is the case? I have been getting most stuff, but when the occasional person asks me if I've had their email and I haven't I get worried about what else hasn't come through. I'm with talktalk, by the way.

You can't know. Emails can get lost and there's no way of telling without searching through the logs of all the mail servers en route. You'd have to know exactly which mail servers and get access to their logs.

Many thanks for that, EvelynsDad. I guess it's just one of those things - like using the normal postal system, where most things get through but the odd one goes astray. Thanks again for answering.

Most email providers delete incoming emails that are obviously spam or that contain viruses. Some give you a special box (at their end) that they put the spam in for a time before deleting it in case you want to check that it was really spam.

I see that you collect your email using Outlook Express the same as I do. But you might want to logon to your email account on their website and look around.

It might mention spam filters and it might point you to a spambox or bulk email box or something.

Thank you, Greyriverside. I can't seem to get onto their website. Googling it comes up with all sorts of strange things but not the site itself. Do you have a link?

TalkTalk Email Help

This FAQ may be what you need. I note that the spam tips do mention a spam box that emails are sent to if suspected of being spam.

If you follow the tip "How do I log in to the broadband dashboard?" I expect you will see all kinds of information about your account.

Many thanks again. I think I've done all I can now, and I appreciate your time. Happy Bank Hol.
