GRRRRRRRR

I am in the middle of typing up masses of work on wordpad.

WHY OH WHY suddenly when I want to insert a letter I have missed in a word, and move the cursor there, it starts typing over the rest of the word, then runs into the next until I have to retype the whole frigging thing?

It wasn't doing it 2 minutes ago. I could insert a letter, and carry on. NOW ITS PISSING ME OFF.
Can anyone tell me what to do???????

You've hit the 'insert ' button (near the 'delete one on mine), by mistake?

JackieNo · 18/05/2008 14:21

(just press it again to turn it off, btw), bit like 'caps lock'.

StealthPolarBear · 18/05/2008 14:22

It is the most frustrating thing ever - especially when you don't notice it for 5 miniutes

maidamess · 18/05/2008 14:25

Jackie I've just tried the insert thing, hasn't worked. I'm going crazy cos I'm crap at typing anyway.

Oh dear, in that case, I don't know, sorry.

maidamess · 18/05/2008 14:28

Thanks anyway! I'm going to have to ring my Mum. She used to type for a living.

very weird

Try saving any work to a file. Close Wordpad, re-open and then try again.

Out of interest why are you using Wordpad if you have 'masses' to do? Would you not be better off with a more substantial program?

Aniyan · 18/05/2008 14:35

if you've accidentally pressed the 'insert' key on your keyboard (on the right above 'delete'), then your typing overwrites what's in front of it instead of inserting itself. There's often no indication which state the 'insert' button is in (it just toggles between 'insert' and 'overwrite') - I'd try pressing it once and seeing if that fixes it.

oops - should have refreshed this thread before I wrote that! ignore my previous!

maidamess · 18/05/2008 15:25

Is your computer slow and you are typing ahead of the buffer speed?

I know on my old PC, if I got too far ahead of it everything would go pear shaped.

maidamess · 18/05/2008 21:10

Thanks for your efforts...I still havent got to the bottom of why it goes tits up...

I had to download pre existing forms from a website and it automatically put them there. I am a complete technophobe...It wouldn't print them properly either. I was in tears earlier on!

Remember as soon as you ever create a document in any package - save it.

If you are typing a long document, rather than press Save use Save As and keep giving your documents a different sequential number at the end so you have lots of updates ...

I promise it saves lots of heartache later (I've been there! too many times)

  • I think the insert button was hot by mistake rather than being a package issue ....
maidamess · 18/05/2008 22:09

The form I downloaded from the website went to word pad. I don't have word. Is this a problem ? Is that why it went to cock as I tried to print it?

THIS IS WHY I HATE COMPUTERS.
