I have VS2008 and I need script debugging turned on so it bloody tries to debug mumsnet every time I want to skive take a break. The developers clearly need a kick.

Erm, er, that sounds terrible.

Erm, er, what is it?

Erm, er, tech, tech, where are you?

I will go and slap some wrists and ask someone to get in contact with you.

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 14/05/2008 12:43

Abby, have you been knob-twiddling again?
Rest assured most of us technoproles can't see any of said javascript errors

padboz · 14/05/2008 12:47

you can all see them whenever you like - tiny yellow triangle bottom right hand corner of browser - click on it. Errors - lots of em. Unfortunately I'm a asp.net developer so I don't have to click on it - it pops up every time I change page unless I disable the debugging - but as I get paid to not have little yellow triangles in the bottom of my browser I quite like to leave it on

UnquietDad · 14/05/2008 12:54

Well, I'm on Firefox and I don't have a funny yellow triangle in the bottom right-hand corner of my browser. And it's all working fine for me.

padboz · 14/05/2008 13:01

Thats firefox for you its hiding the awful truth from you

MN stops and starts all the time with me, i told tech but he ignored me oh well i just use ff now anyway

MrCSWS · 14/05/2008 13:11

I am sorry padboz, but trying to take the moral high ground when using VS2008 is a bit rich!

Firefox at least tries to stick to W3C standards whilst Microsoft/asp.net sticks to non-standards in general (though getting better version by version)

looking at the source (of this page) reports 19 errors and 1 warning in the validator. Amazon for a comparions has 290 errors and 19 warnings! so i don't believe mumsnet is that bad.

if it is kicking off the script debugger, maybe sending the script that is raising the error might be a good idea

padboz · 14/05/2008 13:22

I don't get to chose my development environment! if you want to go down the mozilla/ IE row route I can wear both hats - unfortunately at work I wear the Microsoft Gold Partner one
I use Amazon to buy books etc - it doesnt take very long. Mumsnet addiction takes somewhat longer and involves clicking on many more things

Is the mothership picking you lot up later ?

Sorry, I don't speak martian or venusian

weebleswobble · 14/05/2008 13:28

OK! Who let the geeks out? Who? Who? Who? Who?

UnquietDad · 14/05/2008 13:42

How much of this do normal people need to know? Seriously?

Loshad · 14/05/2008 13:58

lol, actually UQD it was helpful in an odd way as i kept getting scropt error boxes coming up, and reading this made me realise i could change my settings, and yes, they have gone
they are very annoying the boxes, they pop up every time you click with script error

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/05/2008 14:17

Why am I not surprised to find my dh on this thread ?

padboz · 14/05/2008 14:18

oh dear UQD - do you not care about the quality of the service delivered by MN? . Seriously - If it hasn't bothered you yet it wont bother you at all.

Losgad - hey! thats great.

Am I doing myself a disservice here? I am a girl by the way - I own lipsticks and wonderbras and everything. I dont wear steel rimmed aviators, I dont have keys on a chain hanging from my belt in my pocket, I dont have my mobile phone on my belt and I dont listen to Nightwish or Cradle of Filth.

It's sorted. There problem was there was no javascript whatsoever. It was a side effect of a a whole load of other fixes that were released this morning.

I know how you love to all speculate about what goes on, what goes wrong, whose fault it is an everything, so I'll leave you to it... If nothing goes wrong for a few hours we might throw in an error or two to keep it interesting!

padboz · 14/05/2008 16:27

Great service

I reckon your chances of throwing in an 'interesting' javascript error are minimal at best - I think some kind of porn easter egg might be your best bet for this lot.

Is this the same as the 500 servlet too many messages blank page that I get on talk sometimes lately? WTF is that all about?

I keep assuming it's me but maybe it's you?

YetMoreTech · 14/05/2008 17:45

padboz, great service is what we aim for! Keep in mind that if service does turn out to be poor it just means I whip 'em (the team) harder, so be careful what you wish for.

WilfSell, any kind of error message presented black on white with mention of '500' is not a problem at your end, but ours. It's usually something pretty low level and serious. We've had a few recently because of programming bugette, the details of which will bore everybody (except perhaps padboz), but suffice to say we think we've nailed it now.

We've recently upped the sensitivity of our monitoring system which means that people get text messages whenever the site is not purring along properly and delivering all the stuff you know and love. Hence last night someone was working on the problem even before all the scornful emails started pouring in to my inbox.

WilfSell · 14/05/2008 17:47

you see now I just patiently sat it out

padboz · 14/05/2008 20:33

sheesh yet - whip them then. I don't care

I have no idea what any of you anoraks clever people are on about. Not even sure why I clicked on this thread. Think it must have been a mistake.

But have a little yellow triangle at the bottom left of my screen and I wondered what it was there for!

BlueDragonfly · 11/06/2008 22:26

i have no triangle but i wouldn't know what a javascript was if it hit me ion the face!! MN works and thats what counts in my book
