I'm running out of space and we need to back it up before we move, and I don't want to back up a lot of old junk. Do I delete things like cookies, should I delete them all or individually, if I delete them all will I lose all my bookmarks and passwords and have to start again?

i'm also having trouble deleting old movies, they won't move into the trash. Am going to search youtube talk boards for this but it's the cookies and applications i'm not sure what to do with as they seem an integral part of everything.

Have also got "afraid to delete" syndrome of course although I know I have to

Thanks very much for any help x

If you delete your cookies then you won't lose your bookmarks or your passwords but it will log you out of MN and other such websites. It also resets your counters on some sites.

I regularly clear my cookies and also temporary files because they slow down the speed of my laptop.

gosh thankyou!

but what does "reset your counters" mean

and what do you mean, temporary files

On another forum I go on, it remembers what you've read so you can go to the first unread item, when you clear your cookies it thinks you haven't read anything so take you to the start of every thread.

Temporary files are saved for every web page you visit to make return visits quicker but if you do a lot of web browsing then they build up very quickly. Getting rid of them just gives you back space without losing anything important.

mrs pnut you've been a big help
have already emptied my cache, which i think would be the temprary files
now am about to delete cookies
