How do I rid my computer of viruses without spending a fortune?

I have just run my out of date Norton free scan and it has identified 2 viruses which it tells me it can't remove. The virus is called Trojan.Wimad. I have no idea what it is and what damage it can do. I need to get rid of it. Thanks

it doesn't appear a very serious one. I find it strange that norton always seem to pick up a virus as the free trial is coming or at an end

have you got spybot search and destroy and ad aware loaded on your pc?
I use those plus AVG.

try download.com and you can read up on the best ones around at the moment.

Thanks. I just saw trojan and panicked. I haven't got spybot will look into it now.
