External hard drive help needed please

I want to get an external harddrive. Have been looking at dabs.com, which I have seen recommended on here.

I am confused about exactly what specification I need. We have a laptop and so I think need a certain type (2.5"?) but not sure whether this is right.

Also not sure what amount of GB I need. How much do you get on 160GB, 250GB in terms of photos, songs etc. Have been sorting out our CDs and there are about 300+ that we want to store.

Any recommendations in the £50-£100 range (would obvioulsy prefer it to be nearer the lower end of the range ).

If it's external, it doesn't matter whether it's 2.5" or 3.5".

You can get 500GB for £60, which is huge.

pc world had a special on a Terra byte recently, we have a western digital 500gb and adequate as dh constantly downloads masses of share prices and then of course the dreaded unlimited digital photos!
