I don't know if anyone has used fontmakers before but there's a great one that that I bought this morning that's really easy to use for making a font of your own handwriting.
It's called Scanahand from High Logic
I'm not quite sure what I'm going to use it for yet but this is the geeky section, yes? I've put a sample on my profile. It takes about 5 mins to make a font.

oh that is cool! must check out.

(pmsl at the cartoon on your profile btw. And shuddered with self-recognition...)

I love this - how much does it cost and where did you get it from?

throckenholt · 29/04/2008 11:12

I think I would use it - for letters when you want the personal touch but you are crap at managing to maintain decent handwriting.

Somehow it is so much quicker to type.

NappiesGalore · 29/04/2008 11:19

that looks pretty cool. couldnt be arsed to go to all the hassle of setting it up tho - looks lloooooooooooooooong.
your writing is quite nice, can i not just use your font?

CountessDracula · 29/04/2008 11:20

nappies where have you been???

quickdrawmcgraw · 29/04/2008 11:21

It cost $29 but with VAT it came to £18.50
I downloaded the trial version from the site that I linked and there was a link from that to buy once I'd had a look.
Wouldn't it have been great to have a fint of your mum's writing when you were in school! Great for sick notes etc.

I'm thinking of making a font of dd's writing so that she can type stories without being put off by the tedium of lots of writing.

NG it really doesn't take anytime to set up. 15 mins top from start to first font.

You need a printer and scanner though otherwise it won't work.

Also you can't do joined writing.

countess, i was thinking same about you !

in answer to question, up my own arse in pathetic self indulgent cloud of fear and loathing. but i appear to be a bit better now, you? (dont you just love the honesty of the internet??)

quickdrawmcgraw · 29/04/2008 14:20

This may be of some real use after all. I got ds's(age 5) writing. Fantastic for forging thank you letters. see profile

If you only want one font and/or you use a different OS to Windows, Fontifier is a great web app that does a similar thing. Costs $9 for each font.

VintageGardenia · 29/04/2008 14:30

LOL I love the thank-you letter! You could set up a website creating fonts of people's dc's writing & offer a thank-you letter service for Christmases, birthdays, etc. Extra fee for e.g. blobs of jam, smears of butter, etc to add authenticity.

quickdrawmcgraw · 29/04/2008 14:33

RubberDuck that looks very good! definitely better value and works in exactly the same way.

Yep - although I think if you're going to end up making several fonts, then buying the package works out more economical
