Predictive text T9 language HELP????

I have a new phone LG pink IKE970, I can't figure out how to turn on the predictive text. When you press the # key you get the choice of 123 ABC or Abc. It mentions T9 language in the instruction book but don't know if that is what I am looking for, I have T9 set to english but it still doesn't make any difference when texting,

HELP I am slow enough at texting .

Ok I have googled T9 and to switch it on you have to hold down the * key, don't know how the hell I would have figured that out, it doesn't tell you anywhere.
