Smart TV and broadband advice

Elderly parents would love a smart TV (access to BBC iPlayer, channel 4 app etc). Currently no landline anymore as happy with mobile 'phone to chat. So my question is will they need to pay landline rental in order to have broadband and therefore use of smart TV?

No, you don't need a landline to get broadband but they'll often come together as a package. Check out smart TVs with 'Freely' built in. It's the new version of Freeview and they can easily switch between regular tv guide that they're used to and on demand players.
