My computer lost it's sound - where has it gone....what HAVE I done this time?

The little symbol isn't in the right hand corner it has disappeared

Look for 'Sounds and Audio Devices' in Control Panel
Tick the box to 'Place volume control in the taskbar' and make sure Mute isn't ticked.

First though you should restart the computer since that might cure it.

are your speakers on?
(not that i've even done that. oh no)

ours did this last week. It was ok after a reboot and now think for some reason it had powered itself down overnight and not restarted properly.

When in doubt turn it off
