How come I can't access my hotmail account &DH can't access his? HELP!!

For the last two days when I try to sign into my hotmail account (and DH his) I enter my password, press send and nothing happens apart from a long gobbly gook message appears in the address bar (wasn't sure about copying and pasting the exact message here as, although it seems like gobbly gook to me it may actually contain info that cpuld be used to access my hotmail account [paranoid emoticon])and it's highlighted in green and the word "Done" appears in the bottom left of the screen, but it doesn't go into my hotmail account; it just sits there doing nothing. Need to get in and access messages; any ideas/advice??

Has it only just started doing it or is it an ongoing problem? - sometimes there may be problems for a while & it then rights itself.
The address bar turning green is standard - do you get anything at all - is it a blank page or does it stay on the log in page?
Have you tried pressing 'refresh' after it says 'Done'

Don't know what's causing that, but are you sharing the same computer? or does it go wrong on any computer.

If just on the one I'd begin by deleting temporary internet files.

What browser are you using?

and does the address bar line look something like this (changed it a bit because you could be right about security)

If that's roughly right then it's the correct place even if it's not showing you the page.

The message is alot longer than that one but similar. Deleted temporary files as you suggested but it's not solved it

Well I'm not sure what's going on there. The only other thing I can suggest for now is to delete the cookies. If you don't want to delete them all (they do serve a purpose) you can look in C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx\Cookies where xxxxx is your name on the PC and look for any with 'live' in their name. There may be several like this

Yo u may have several duplicate ones which can confuse logons

Where do I find documents and settings?

If you have Windows XP it's on the hard drive C:\Documents and Settings, but if you have an older operating system then cookies are in C:\Windows\Profiles\xxxxxx\cookies where xxxxx is your name on the PC

You may be able to just search the hard drive for the folder Cookies. It will likely find more than one

Actually I just remembered I clicked the option to delete cookies when I went in to delete temporary internet files as you suggested so it looks like I already deleted cookies and still not solved

Perhaps someone else has some ideas. It would be useful if you could try and log on from someone elses computer to prove it's a problem at your end and not at hotmail.

try accessing through the msn site -google msn then click on the hotmail button and sign in. May or may not work

Can't get to it through the MSN site-I go into the MSN site then click on the hotmail button and though it says it's waiting to access the hotmail site I wait there for ages and it never does access it. I also don't know how to contact hotmail as I would have to be able to sign into my account in oredr to click on HELP button to contact them. Any ideas?

if you type " cant login to hotmail" or something similar then there are loads of forums which may help you.

Have you had a chance to try and access it from another computer?

If it's just this one there are only so many possibilities.

Antivirus - Try it without
Antispyware - Try it without

Check Browser settings for cookies etc.

All depends on which browser/version you're using.

How about downloading and installing Firefox? I'm not a fan of it since it uses so much CPU time and can't be used in a lot of places, but if it worked you would know it was the IE settings

I am in the library and using their computer and I can access my hotmail account just fine from this computer so purely a prob on my laptop. How do I get Firefox to try and access it with that on my laptop as someone suggested?

just google firefox and the first entry that comes up is Mozilla Firefox which lets you download the programme for free x

Downloaded Firefox but cannot access my hotmail account from it either, or my dh's one.

have you tried running a virus scan and spybot or equivalent?
