New digibox problem

I bought a digital settop box today after checking the digital tv website that said my postcode can get digital tv.

Its run through the auto search twice and found no channels - does this mean I can't get digital tv unless I upgrade my ariel?

Do I need to upgrade my ariel or can I just wait for 2 years and hopefully the signal will have got better then?

Possibly need to upgrade if aerial is more than 10 years old.

Does it have two aerial sockets and are you sure the aerial from the wall is plugged into the correct one? I'd expect it to get some signal and some channels.

Ah, sorted now. I hadn't plugged the ariel from the wall into anywhere.

Well plugging the ariel in gets me picture on all the channels its found. However there is no sound - apart from very faintly I can hear BBC1 no matter which channel I'm watching

I think I may have to wait for DH to return from Ireland.

have you checked that the scart socket is in properly?? you can get that effect if it's not in properly on both ends.

ah you may need a specific sort of cable, is tv not recent perhaps? We had that problem and the regular one wasn't enough.
